 Chittourgarh Fort is situated on top of a hill, which is 180 meter high. This fort is one of the most popular Chittaurgarh tourist destinations. The palaces inside the Chittorgarh Fort, which are known for their rich architecture, are Rana Kumbha Palace, Tower of Victory and Fateh Prakash Palace. The fort of Chittorgarh was built by the Rajputs. It stands high and is a majestic structure that dots the city. 
The places of attraction within the premises of the fort are the towers of Vijay Stambh and Kirti Stambh. The fort is surrounded by temples and exotic gardens. There is a huge Jain temple complex built between the 9th and 17th Centuries. The Kirti Stambh has 54 stairs. It is a seven-storey structure, which was built around 12th century A.D. The base of the structure is 30 feet and tapers down to 15 feet. The facade of this Stambh is marked with many Jain sculptures. This temple was built in the honor of a spiritual preacher named Adinath.

 Another structure that is worth noticing is the Vijay Stambh. It is a colossal structure and can be viewed from any part of the city. It took 10 years to complete this grand structure. This structure was built during the 15th Century A.D by Rana Kumbha. Thousands of tourists visit this imperial fort every year. Chittaurgarh Fort is open for public viewing throughout the day.

The old Rana Kumbha's Palace in Chittaurgarh Fort is believed to possess underground cellars. Popular legend has it that the beautiful Rani Padmini committed Jauhar along with the other women of the palace in these cellars. Jauhar was an age-old process of self-immolation in fire committed by the women of the Rajput dynasty. Rani Padmini committed Jauhar to protect herself from Alauddin Khilji who desired to possess her.

 Victory Tower or Vijay Stambh is one of the most popular places of sightseeing in the city of Chittaurgarh. This tower was constructed by Rana Kumbha to immortalize his triumph over Mahmud, Khilji who was the ruler of Malwa, in the year 1440.

 This nine-storeyed tower is 37 meters high. The Victory Tower has a balcony in each storey. From these balconies the various monuments within the Chittaurgarh Fort can be seen clearly. The temple of Sammidheshwari is located very close to that of the Vijay Stambh. The reservoir of Gumukh and Rani Padmini's Palace are closely located to the Vijay Stambh. 



Meerabai Temple

 Meerabai Temple is one of the religious places to see in Chittaurgarh. The temple was constructed during the rule of Maharana Kumbha, the Rajput king. It was dedicated to Mira Bai, one of the prominent participants in the Bhakti Cult movement. 
 
The temple was constructed in the archetypal Rajput architecture. The structure lies on an elevated plinth that is typical of the North Indian architecture. The dome of the temple is embellished with a structure of 5 human bodies with a single head. The human bodies symbolize the four castes of the Hindu religion or the Varnas and the 5th caste of the Harijan. The single head symbolizes the faith in God, who can be equally realized by all. Above the chief sanctum rises the conical roof of the temple.

 The sanctum sanctorum of the temple comprises of the paintings of Lord Krishna. Paintings of Mira Bai offering prayers to the Lord are also placed in the inner sanctum. Four pavilions extend from the inner sanctum into the colonnade. The small chhatri found in the temple’s forecourt is dedicated to the mentor of Mira Bai, Swami Ravidas. He hailed from Varanasi and belonged to the Harijan caste. The floor lying underneath the shrine carries the footmarks of the saint. 
 
The tourists visiting the Meerabai Temple in Chittorgarh are advised to open their shoes outside the temple before walking into the sanctum. 





Kalika Mata Temple

 The Kalika Mata Temple is one of the most intriguing places to see in Rajasthan. Previously dedicated to Lord Surya, the Kalika Mata Temple of Chittaurgarh was transformed into a temple of Goddess Kali.

 Constructed on a raised platform, the Kalika Mata Temple has wonderfully sculptured exteriors. The pillars, mandap, entrances and the ceiling all bear great work of intricate carvings. However, much of its previous glory was lost when Allaudin Khilji attacked Chittorgarh. 
 
The temple attracts a large number of visitors during the annual fair held near the temple complex. People from far and wide visit the temple to pay homage to Goddess Kali.

 Tower of Fame is also known as the Kirti Stambh, which was constructed in the 12th Century A.D. It is a structure, which is 22 meters high. It has a total of 54 stairs. This tower was built in the honor of Lord Sri Adinath Rishab Deo who was the first Jain Tirthankar. An imperial statue, which is five feet high, of this Jain Tirthankar is constructed in front of this tower. The base of the tower is 30 feet and tapers towards the top. The outer surface of the structure is adorned with human figures.

 The Chittaurgarh Museum, better known as Fateh Prakash Palace Museum, is another must visit place in Chittaurgarh. The Fateh Prakash Palace Museum of Chittorgarh houses many significant and historical artifacts.
 
Inaugurated in the year 1968, the Fateh Prakash Palace Museum boasts of some magnificent collection of war weapons like daggers, shields, swords, Farsa, axes, helmets and armors. One can see the clay models of the tribes of the area. These models are clad with traditional outfits and jewelries. There is a statue of Ganapati, which was built between the 8th and 9th century.

 The Fateh Prakash Palace Museum also houses important archaeological findings and handicrafts of the area. The art gallery of the museum pleases the art lovers.  The Palaces of Jaimal and Patta belonged to Rathore Jaimal and Sisodia Patta. These were the two brave men who defended their fort during the time when the Mughals attacked this fort. These palaces were the last to be built within the premises of the Chittorgarh Fort. They were built in a simple style in comparison to other forts and palaces of the area. Efforts are being taken by the tourism department of Chittaurgarh to protect the fort as a large part of it lies in ruins.
