Srinagar is one of the world-famous tourist destinations of India. This summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir state is popular for natural beauty. Experts call it as heaven on earth and that’s why people from around the world are reaching Srinagar for vacations. Srinagar is positioned in the valley of Kashmir where the river Jhelum flows. The beautiful gardens, houseboats and lakes are amazing in Srinagar. The handicrafts of Kashmir are famous throughout the world, though most of the craft work is done at Srinagar. The dry fruit's production is another popular thing of J&K.  There is a long history behind Srinagar. In third century BC, the city was identified by different names, though originally it was established by the Ruler Pravara Sena 2nd. Hence city was named as Parvasenpur. Later at the Maurya Empire period the King Ashoka initiated Buddhism in the valley of Kashmir. Lots of rulers and empires came to J&K at different intervals and changed the name of diverse cities.  The Srinagar city turned as headquarters of Kashmir in 960 CE. Before independence of India, the city was controlled by British rulers and before them Sikhs and prior to Sikh rulers, Mughal’s ruled Kashmir Valley, though Mughal’s created countless tourist spots particularly for summer vacations.

This beautiful valley city is situated on either sides of river Jhelum, which is recognized as Vyath in Kashmir. The popular 9 old bridges linking the city with other parts are special things to watch. Hokersar is another wetland positioned close to Srinagar city. Visitors can enjoy watching thousands of traveling birds in Hokersar during the winter season. Hokersar is only 14 kms away from Srinagar popular as the world's most wetlands. The lake and swampy area of Hokersar will give different feeling to visitors.

Some special migrated birds that tourist can find in Hokersar are ducks and geese, including Brahminy Duck, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Garganey, Mallard, Greylag Goose,  Merganser, Common Pochard, Northern Pintail, Ferruginous Pochard, Ruddy Shelduck, Red-crested Pochard, Northern Shoveler, Eurasian Wigeon and Common Teal.
The climate of the city is cooler than other parts of India. The high hill's of Kashmir is covered with snow, which affects the lower part of the state. Srinagar is the best spot for summer, though it turns into very cold in winter season. This city is bounded by Himalaya Mountains so the weather is always cool in Srinagar. Visitors can enjoy snowfall in monsoon and winter season at Srinagar and Kashmir. However, the temperature of city goes to the maximum 30°C in summer season.
Tourist attractions in Srinagar and near Srinagar:
Gulmarg: one of the finest hill resorts is situated in Gulmarg. The natural scenery in Gulmarg could be dissimilar experience for visitors. Gulmarg played vital role in various dynasties at diverse periods. This place was the favorite place for haunting for Jahangir the Mughal emperor. Today Gulmarg is turned as India’s ski resort. Gulmarg is 300 kms distant from Jammu's railway station, and countless hotels are available for accommodation.
Pahalgam: another Indian tourist place in Srinagar is Pahalgam situated at the meeting point of the Lidder valley’s and Sheshnag. Pahalgam is very special spot, particularly for nature lovers. This summer resort place is cool in summer season as well.
Sonmarg: next added tourist spot in Srinagar is Sonmarg lies towards Sindh Valley. The impressive vision of the city from this point could be memorable moment for a tourist. However, accommodation at this place is less to tourist has to arrange the hotels prior to visit Srinagar.
Verinag: next in the list is Verinag popular as the source of Jhelum River. The spring of blue water and delightful resort on foothills is absolutely different feeling for anybody.
Dal Lake: Srinagar is famous for lakes and natural scenery. Dal lake is the one where a tourist can enjoy houseboat and many other water events. Dal lake is known as unique tourist spot of Srinagar. Here travelers can enjoy shikara boat with excellent hospitality. Experts recognize the Srinagar city as "Venice of the East." Some even call the city as "Kashmiri Venice."
Hari Parbat: the spot which is sacred to the Muslim, Hindus and Sikhs is Hari Parbat. The only Mughal Fort at hills is major attraction of this place.
Shankaracharya Temple: the other spot for visitors is the temple of Shankaracharya. This shrine is constructed on the high octagonal platform of the hill Takht-i-Sulaiman.
Mughal Gardens: furthermore, known as rose garden is wonderful tourist spot in Srinagar. This garden is having countless categories of flowers specially rose. The cascading fountains, terraced lawns, and flower beds are amazing things in Mughal Garden. Tourist can enjoy the panorama view of Dal Lake from the garden.
Pari Mahal: the ancient memorial known as Pari Mahal is situated National Highway of the city. Pari Mahal is popular for the growth of saffron in September to October.
Jama Masjid: visitors love to watch historical places can go to Jama Masjid. It was constructed in 14th century by Sultan Sikandar. However, visitors have to reach Nowhatta to view the Jama Masjid.

Khir Bhawani Temple is also the special spot in Srinagar.

By Road: the dual lane of the road in the city allows more commuters to travel freely. Travel agencies are offering direct buses from various cities of India to reach Srinagar. Some deluxe buses are also available for luxury journey. This city is properly linked with Chandigarh (630 kms away), Jammu (290 kms away), Delhi (876 kms away), Leh (434 kms away) and Pahalgam (96 kms away). Getting the travel packages will help visitors to get the guide with them.

By Air: the big domestic airport of Srinagar allows commuters to reach the spot easily. Frequent flights from Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai and Shimla are available to reach Srinagar.

By Train: the biggest railway station to reach Srinagar is Jammu. The distance between Jammu and Srinagar is 290 kms. Jammu station is properly linked with all major cities of India. Direct trains from Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Trivandrum are available to reach Jammu.
