Omkareshwar- The holy place of India

Holy importance place Omkareshwar is basically a Hindu holly place where a temple of Lord Shiva is situated. This place is also known for 12 holy Jyotirlinga temple of Bhagwan Shiva.

The best part about this place is it is situated at island known as Mandhata also recognized as Shivapuri situated on Narmada River. There is historical background in the name of this place. This island is in the shape of Hindu symbol (Om) and that is the reason it’s known as Omkareshwar. However, devotees have to reach Madhya Pradesh as this island is under Khandwa District, Madhya Pradesh.


Devotees must visit the two temples Omkareshwar and Amareshwar. Amareshwar means lord of the Devas or Immortal lord. Followers can visit Mamleshwar temple also must be visited which is situated at other side of Narmada river.

Omkareshwar is shaped by the blessed river Narmada as this river is most holy according to Hindu religion in India. Presently this river is also known for world's major dam project.

Transport
As it is an island so reaching there through steamboats is good option. Devotees can reach the place through different ways. There are two connecting bridges on Narmada River which allow the visitors to reach the Omkareshwar temple.

By Air: The nearest Airport to Omkareshwar is Indore which is 77 km away from this island and the next airport is Ujjain which is situated at 133 km distant.

By Rail: Closest Railway Station is Omkareshwar Road which is 12 km from the place.

By Road: This holy place is connected with major cities and towns of Madhya Pradesh. Though, there are frequent bus services from Indore, Ujjain, Khandwa and Omkareshwar Road.
