Kurukshetra Tourism

Kurukshetra means the field of righteousness, a name well suited to its legendary past and religious predominance. A holy town in the state of Haryana, Kurukshethra had acquired many ramifications and to the teeming millions of India, this place reminds them of the sacred association it has with lord Krishna, the benevolent god in the entire Hindu Pantheon.

The legendary tales of Kurushethra starts with Kuru, who laid the foundation of a domain that has its roots on uprightness and benevolence. Ironically this land has to witness a great battle between the successors of Kuru, in which the lord himself had played a key role. Thus, Kurukshetra encompasses a rich and a colourful history of centuries, where one can experience the theological and rational gibbets of Hinduism. As the time goes on the sacredness of the city began to grow with the visit of saintly avatars like Lord Buddha' and numerous Sikh gurus. Kurukshetra stands as an unparallel pilgrimage site, which includes a large number of devout centers, holy shrines, kunds and Gurudwaras linked with the epic ages and the earliest Indian civilization.

Though Kurukshethra holds versatile facets in the religious arena, its holiness and sanctity lies in the single fact that this was the place where lord Krishna preached the theory of Karma to his favorite friend Arjun. This gave birth to the holiest of all Hindu textures, Bhagawat Gita or the Song Celestial, which symbolizes the paramount principles of the Hindu religion.

As the cradle of Indian civilization, this place found its rendering in many of the ancient texts and most of the books of that time contain either a description of Kurukshetra or names of personalities from there. A good number of Vedic transcripts were composed from here and Kurukshetra was the seat of all the social, spiritual and political traditions of the old era.

Apart from the devout sites, a bevy of other fascinating and alluring attractions that houses historical interest are in store in Kurukshethra. Archaeological expeditions have proved that this city was in existence during the pre-Harrapan times. Kurukshethra with its religious colours and historical succinctness would definitely a treasure hunt for all those who want to get a deep in sight in the cultural ethnicity of ancient India.
