Kainchi Dham
About
Many hundreds of people visit the
temples here every day, in season. Each year, during the June 15th
Bhandara, reportedly, more than one lakh (100,000) people are fed.
Kainchi is a term used for two sharp
hairpin bends of the motor road in local dialect hence the name. It has
NO relation with scissors.
Founded by the famous Maharaj Neem Karoli Baba in 1962 and is very well maintained and kept neat and clean.
The concept of this place came into
existence in 1942 when Maharaj Neem Karoli along with Shri Poornanand of
the Kainchi Village proposed building an Ashram here dedicated to
Sombari Maharaj and Sadhu Premi Baba who used to perform yagnas in this
very place. Later in 1962, their dream materialised and the forest from
this area was cleared and a rectangular platform was constructed. After
due permission from the Forest Conservator, Maharaj Ji acquired the
lease of this land and constructed a Temple devoted to Lord Hanuman over
that rectangular platform and adjacent to it is the Kainchi Temple and
an Ashram built for devotees.

The
Hanuman temple is built over the platform mentioned above. His devotees
started coming from different places and a chain of bhandaras, kirtans,
bhajans started. The Pran-Pratishtha of idols of Hanumanji and others
was performed on 15th June in different years. Thus, 15th June is
celebrated every year as Pratishtha Divas when a large number of
devotees come to Kainchi and get Prasad. The number of devotees and the
associated vehicular traffic is so large that the district
administration has to make special arrangement to regulate the same.
Accordingly some changes have been made in the whole complex so that
people do not face any difficulty in movement.
Kainchi temple is of a special
importance in each and every devotee's life. It was here that Ram Dass
and other westerners spent a lot of good time with Maharajji. All
devotees should pay a visit to this temple at least once.
There is also a cave beside the temple where Baba Neem Karoli used to spend his time praying and is considered a sacred area.

be an excellent swimmer. So good a swimmer was Vantawnga that he could
hover in the cascading water like a fish, but unfortunately during one
of such performances, a drifting log fell from above and killed him.
The height of the fall is recorded as
750 ft and though it is difficult to get close to it because of the
sheer forested hillsides surrounding it, a comfortable viewing tower has

Palak Dil or Pala Tipo (Mara language for "swallowing lake") is the largest lake in southern Mizoram, northeast India. It is located in near Phura village in Saiha district, within the Mara Autonomous District Council. Its geographical location falls under the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot, and is therefore rich in animal and plant species. The lake is a major component of the Palak Wildlife Sanctuary, and it supports the major biodiversity of the sanctuary.
Palak Dil is situated within Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), one of the three autonomous district councils in the southernmost part of the state. It is about 76 km away from Saiha, the headquarters of MADC. It can be reached by small/light vehicles only. Three villages such as Phura, Tongkalong, and Lawngban, are in close proximity. Phura is the main route for visitors.
Phawngpui the Blue Mountain of Mizoram, is a highly revered peak, considered to be the abode of the gods. Phawngpui peak is the highest mountain peak in Mizoram, rising about 2157 m high near the Myanmar border in Lawngtlai district, the southeast region of Mizoram. Phawngpui peak is famous for orchids and rhododendrons. With spectacular trees and flowers of all colours, Phawngpui presents a fairytale view of the blue hazed hills, and vales unfolding below.
Phawngpui was the major centre of folk religion and folklores. The name is derived from the Lai language, phong meaning "grassland" or "meadow", and the suffix -pui meaning "great". This was because the mountain was mostly covered with all types meadows, hence appropriately the "great meadow". The mountain was, according the belief of the natives, the abode of several spiritual races. The most important folktale, perhaps, is that of a deity king named "Sangau"; the actual town at the base of the mountain has become Sangau. Sangau had a son who married the princess of another royal family called Cherian. At the wedding was an exchange of gifts, a couple of hoolock gibbons from Sangau and a pine tree from Cherian. The base area, the main entrance of the mountain bears that name Farpak (meaning "pine only").
Phawngpui National Park or Phawngpui Blue Mountain National Park is one of the two national parks of India in Mizoram, the other and the larger being Murlen National Park. It is about 300 km from the main city Aizawl, located in the Lawngtlai district, towards the southeast of Mizoram and relatively close to Burma. It bears the name of the mountain Phawngpui, often called the Blue Mountain of Mizoram, which is the highest mountain peak in the state, reaching 2,157 m asl. The national park covers the entire mountain along with the surrounding reserve forest.
The mountain area of Phawngpui is at most times covered by a thin stretch of clouds, which make it blue in appearance from a distance, hence the name Blue Mountain. The temperature therefore is mild throughout the year ranging from 11-29°C, with an average rainfall of 3,000 cm. It overlooks the major river Chhimtuipui flowing towards Burma. The edges of the mountains are all very steep and mostly of sharp precipices, and the most spectacular is a semi-circular beautiful cliff on the western side called Thlazuang Khâm, which has a blunt and deep fall.[4] The mountain ridge runs in a north-south direction covering about 10 km. The closest human settlement is Sangau village at tha base and periphery of the park.
The small Mizoram State Museum in Aizawl has an eclectic collection of wildlife specimens and tribal weapons. Visit here to grab a quick look of the captivating culture of this exquisite town.
Items stored in the museum comprise of photographs, musical instruments, archaeological objects and natural history specimens. The most widely loved is the one that unleashes clothing of the tribes of Mizoram. This tiny museum is positioned close to the Chief Minister's Bungalow
Solomon's Temple in Aizawl, Mizoram is constructed by a non-denominational church, known in Mizo language as Kohhran Thianghlim which is rendered 'The Holy Church' in English. The church was founded by the Holy Spirit through Dr. L.B. Sailo in 1984 and the members are known as 'the elects.' Their mission is to proclaim and disseminate the word of God throughout the world, particularly to the Mizo people through written and spoken means of communication, and they are constructing Solomon's Temple as a symbol of their love of Jesus Christ.
Dr. L.B. Sailo, the founder of the Holy Church said that he was enjoined by God in 1991 to build Solomon’s Temple in Mizoram, India. A piece of land was purchased in the eastern part, but due to the inaccessibility, lack of transportation facility and the inadequate size of the land acquired, the site was purposefully relocated. The location is on the western side, 10 km away from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram state in India. The foundation stone was laid on the 25th December 1996.
Attracting lakhs of tourists every year due to its serene beauty, the city of Aizawl also has quite too much to explore that again leads to influx of travellers. Being located at a convenient place, the land also serves as a stopover on the way to other tourist destinations in the area. A lot of people visit Aizawl to take a 360 degree view of the roots of the country, India. For all those who are keen to get well-versed with the extremely rich heritage and glorious history of India, a visit to the Museums seems to be a must. Through these well equipped museums, one would be able to dig into the legends of the past and get to know much about the country’s former lifestyle and culture. Museums preserve certain artefacts, olden relics, traditional dossiers and such stuff of ancient times. And, most importantly, all this is preserved by the government of India.

MANIPUR
Kangla Fort imphal
About
King
Chandrakriti was succeeded by his eldest son Surchandra. However, he
could not control his step brothers. As a result, Senapati Tikendrajit
revolted against him and put his own brother Yubaraj Kulachandra to the
Throne of Manipur. By this time, the Britishers took advantage to
intervene in the internal affairs of Manipur. They sent Mr. J.W.
Quinton, the Chief Commissioner of Assam to negotiate the palace revolt
and to exile Senapati Tikendrajit. Thus, the first battle of the
Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 broke-out when the British forces, under
orders from Mr. J.W. Quinton, the Chief Commissioner of Assam, attacked
on 'Kangla', the Manipur Fort in the early hours of 24 March 1891.
Manipur was an independent Asiatic power in alliance with the British
Sovereign. This undeclared aggression left the Manipuris infuriated.
However, they agreed to negotiate with the British officials when
approached. The negotiation failed and the Manipuri commander ordered to
execute the British Officers, though the King asked to keep them as
prisoners. Thereafter, the British Empire declared war against Manipur
and attacked it from three sides i.e., Silchar, Kohima and Tamu (in
Myanmar). They conquered 'Kangla Fort' on 27 April 1891. Yubaraj
Tikendrajit and Thangal General etc., were publicly executed by the
British. Since then, 'Kangla' has been under occupation by the Security
forces/Assam Rifles.

Since
the reign of Maharaja Bhagyachandra (1762–1798 AD), due to repeated

Gambhir Singh, with the help of the Manipur Levy, liberated Manipur from
the hands of the Burmese invading forces which occupied Manipur for
seven years. This period of Burmese Rule is known as "Chahi Taret
Khuntakpa" (Seven Years Devastation) in the annals of Manipur. Gambhir
Singh, however, established his capital at Langthabal which is now known
as Canchipur. During the reign of Nara Singh, the capital was shifted
to Kangla in 1844.

ferocious battles were fought around Imphal within a span of 3 months.
The Japanese had presumed that they would be able to capture Imphal
within weeks and they were not prepared for such long battles. Their
supplies ran out. They found out that the Allied forces were well
trained and better equipped that they initially estimated them to be.
Subsequently, the Japanese retreated back towards Rangoon. But many
lives have been lost on both sides. Great battles were fought in around
Imphal and Kohima.Originally, the Imphal War Cemetery was a burial site
for some 950 soldiers who died in the battle. Later, the Army Graves
Service brought in graves from two other burial sites, thereby
increasing the numbers to around 1,600 graves.
